DGNB SUSTAINABILITY CHALLENGE 2023 | WINNER – CATEGORY RESEARCH

The German Sustainable Building Council – DGNB e.V. has selected the winners of the DGNB Sustainability Challenge 2023. In the category Research, the jury was impressed by the project Holz Ziegel Lehm | Pilot Project Sustainable Housing Berlin.

The research project on sustainable rental housing construction is being developed by the Technical University of Berlin in collaboration with ARGE ZRS Architekten and Bruno Fioretti Marquez as well as the Technical University of Braunschweig and the University of Stuttgart. The project is investigating robust, circular and low-tech construction methods for affordable rental housing using the example of timber-clay and brick-timber buildings. Various historically proven low-tech strategies were identified and tested in simulations. In the second stage of the project, which started in January 2023, the research hypotheses on quality of stay, environmental impact, useful energy demand and living space are to be verified by monitoring the ongoing operation of the building, among other things, and also compared with a conventional construction method.

The award ceremony took place on the evening of the DGNB Sustainability Day at the Hospitalhof in Stuttgart on 20th June 2023. Beforehand, all finalists presented their projects to around 400 participants at the event.
