Topping-Out Ceremony | TULIUM

TU Berlin celebrated the topping-out ceremony for TULIUM on its Charlottenburg campus on 22 September 2026. The museum pavilion, a joint project of TU Berlin and the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district authority, will house the university’s Mineralogical Collections alongside exhibition areas, event spaces and a café. Speakers at the ceremony included TU Berlin President Fatma Deniz, Audrey Podann (Head of the Science and Society Staff Unit and TULIUM project lead), district councillor Christoph Brzezinski and Prof. Eike Roswag-Klinge (in his role as TU Berlin Vice President for Sustainability and Campus Development); Sabine Kinzel, construction management lead for TULIUM, held her own Richtspruch, the traditional carpenter’s address.

General planning since the pre-design phase is led by ZRS Architekten, with structural design by ZRS Ingenieure. The load-bearing structure is partly built from reclaimed timber, complemented by a low-tech concept that requires no mechanical ventilation or air conditioning. The foundations largely avoid steel, concrete and sealed surfaces. The project forms part of the B(e)Ware real-world laboratory at TU Berlin’s Natural Building Lab and is funded through the German Joint Task for the Improvement of Regional Economic Structures (GRW).

The scheme also includes a climate-adapted redesign of Hertzallee following the sponge city principle.
