NEW GENERATION OF EARTH BUILDING STANDARDS

The DIN standards committee Lehmbau has completed the revision of the standards for earth building materials under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr Christof Ziegert, ZRS Ingenieure. With the issue date 2024-03, Beuth-Verlag has published the new generation of standards for earth blocks (DIN 18945), earth mortar for masonry work (DIN 18946), earth mortar for plastering (DIN 18947) and earthen boards (DIN 18948) as well as a terminology standard (DIN 18942-1) and a conformity standard (DIN 18942-100). This means that earth building materials are now also harmonised with the standard for load-bearing earth block masonry DIN 18940. Important adjustments in the revised standards for earth building materials include for example the possibility of using recycled aggregate tested for harmful substances or the inclusion of earth adhesive mortar and reinforcing mortar in the standard for earth plaster. The addition of irreversible chemically active binding agents, such as lime, gypsum or cement, is also excluded in the new generation of standards.
