The Weleda Cradle Campus in Schwäbisch Gmünd has been featured in the trade journal “bauen mit Holz” (bmH), published by RM Rudolf Müller. ZRS Ingenieure were involved in the project and were responsible for the technical planning of the rammed earth construction, as well as the structural design of the rammed earth for the high-bay warehouse – one of three buildings on the campus.

 Measuring 82 by 38 meters, Weleda’s central warehouse is considered the largest contiguous rammed earth structure in Germany. The combination of rammed earth, a reinforced concrete trough and an insulated timber facade enables the facility to operate without active cooling or heating for Weleda’s sensitive cosmetic products.

The building is braced by the high-bay warehouse itself. The rammed earth mixture used was sourced from the excavated material from the building pit.
