Fritz-Bender-Preis | Award Winner
We are delighted that the project Youth Centre St. Benedikt, Kloster Nütschau, Travenbrück has been awarded the Fritz-Bender-Preis by the Munich-based Fritz Bender Foundation. The foundation promotes organic construction, the use of sustainable building materials and harmonisation between people and the built environment.
The Youth Centre St. Benedikt, Kloster Nütschau is a project by the architectural firm IMKEWOELK + partners. Structural engineering was carried out by ZRS Ingenieure, while building physics and energy consulting were provided by ZRS Architekten.
Inspired by traditional Japanese timber construction, the Kloster Nütschau is a longhouse based on the post-and-beam building method. Divided into gathering, meditation and sleeping areas, the 8-meter-wide longitudinal layout has the central reception space (Paradies) at its heart. The so-called Engawa, a covered wooden veranda, functions as the link between the interior and the exterior, thereby creating a strong sense of openness and connection to nature.
