TIMBER BRICK EARTH: The documentary film is online
Two buildings, 36 apartments, three materials: the documentary TIMBER. BRICK. EARTH. follows the construction phase of the research housing project in Berlin-Britz. It is available from today on our Vimeo channel, with English subtitles.
In Britz, STADT UND LAND has built two residential buildings with different construction systems: Building A is timber and earth, Building B is monolithic brick and earth. The project is a real-world laboratory for sustainable public housing and is scientifically monitored by three university institutes: the Natural Building Lab at TU Berlin, the Institute for Building Climate and Energy at TU Braunschweig and the Institute for Housing and Design at the University of Stuttgart. The scientific monitoring is funded by the German Federal Environmental Foundation (DBU), and construction was funded by the State of Berlin.
The film by LARVA documents how both buildings came to be and lets the people involved speak. The project received the DGNB Sustainability Challenge 2023 and the Klimaschutzpartner Berlin award 2024.
The film was supported by STRAMEN.TEC and MAX-Holzbau.
