The EDEKA Zukunftsmarkt in Nauen has been published in ARCHITEKTUR BERLIN. Baukultur in und aus der Hauptstadt (Braun Publishing, Munich/Salenstein / Architektenkammer Berlin). The bilingual publication documents selected projects in Berlin. ZRS is featured with the timber-built neighbourhood supermarket in the current edition.
The EDEKA Zukunftsmarkt opened in August 2024 in Nauen. The building is constructed as a hall structure with timber columns and truss beams made of beech laminated veneer lumber, keeping the retail floor largely column-free. The exterior walls are built using prefabricated timber frame construction with blown-in wood fibre insulation; the facades are clad in wood. Electrochromic glazing at the gable ends and rooflights provide natural daylighting. Photovoltaic panels on the roof surfaces and timber solar carports in the car park supply electricity; green roofs, green facades and an orchard meadow improve the microclimate. Rainwater is used for sanitary facilities and outdoor irrigation. The building was developed as a prototype for future EDEKA new builds.
