Lab Workshop with Experimental Foundation at ZRS in Berlin

On Wednesday, November 5 2025, a workshop on the topic of material testing of earthen building materials took place in the ZRS laboratory in Berlin. As part of the Experimental Fellowship at Bauhaus Earth, six fellows from the project Situated Regionalism participated. Following an introduction to material testing of earth-based building materials, the participants learned about moisture tests on earth blocks according to DIN 18945 and afterwards conducted their very own material tests. They examined soil samples for their suitability as earth building material, based on field tests according to the Lehmbau Regeln of the DVL e. V. Four different types of suitable clavey soil were identified during the workshop.
