Conservation Workshop with the NCCAL Kuwait at ZRS Berlin
This summer, a workshop on the conservation of historic earthen buildings was held at the ZRS laboratory in Berlin, attended by five engineers from the NCCAL Kuwait (National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters). Since 2022, ZRS has been a partner of NCCAL on various conservation projects in Kuwait, including the historic earthen building Diwan Khazal in Kuwait City. The first samples for conservation were taken and analyzed there in 2023, and a building survey was carried out in 2024. Emergency conservation work is planned for later this year.
During the workshop in Berlin, the group not only exchanged technical expertise but also analyzed some of the samples brought from Kuwait and developed conservation materials based on them. In addition, the group visited the Chapel of Reconciliation in Berlin, a new building with load-bearing rammed earth walls. For this project, ZRS provided specialist consulting and carried out materials testing for the earth used.
