On 11 September, the ZRS team set out by bike to visit three projects: from Gemeinschaftsschule Friedenau to the Französisches Gymnasium and on to the TU Berlin campus. At an integrated planning office with many projects running in parallel, colleagues often only see each other’s solutions on paper, the outing was a chance to see them on site and exchange views on the details.

 First stop was The Flying Classroom 2.0 in Friedenau, a three-storey school extension built in prefabricated timber panel construction that serves as a prototype for further school sites. At the Französisches Gymnasium (French Gymnasium) in Tiergarten, work is underway on 26 individual roof areas: gravel and exposed aggregate concrete slabs from the existing building are being reused, and the reinforced concrete slabs are being strengthened with CFRP strips, laying the groundwork for future green classrooms, a greenhouse, and roof terraces. Last stop was TULIUM on the TU Berlin campus, where a lattice girder, columns, and a solid-timber ceiling, all made from reclaimed timber, are now in place.
