2nd March 2026 | Lecture: Load-bearing earth brick masonry vs. timber construction with heavy clay brick infill

A comparison based on planning and execution criteria
7:00–8:30 pm | ETH Zurich, LEE E101, Leonhardstrasse 21, 8092 Zurich

Since 2023, DIN 18940 in Germany has allowed the use of load-bearing earth brick construction for buildings up to four stories high. At the same time, more and more timber buildings are not only being clad with earth panels, but also infilled with heavy non-load-bearing earth brick masonry for summer heat protection. In his presentation, Christof Ziegert will take participants on a journey to weigh up the conditions under which these highly sustainable construction methods were or could be chosen. In addition to a question-and-answer session, the IG Lehm Fachverband Schweiz will also introduce itself.
