Visible progress continues on site at the partial refurbishment of the Französisches Gymnasium in Berlin. Renovation of the 26 individual roof areas is proceeding steadily, as is the work on the parapet cladding and aluminium anti-slip sheeting, most of which is already installed.

 The design of the roof terraces is also moving forward: railings and pergola elements are largely complete. Their formal language picks up on the 1970s architecture of the building and, through the chosen colour tone, blends harmoniously with the existing structure as well as with the listed villa next door. Going forward, the pergolas will create sheltered spaces, give plants room to climb, and offer users shaded areas to retreat to.

 The project consistently applies circular-economy principles in two key areas: the gravel needed for the individual sections of the green roofs comes from the existing building — it was carefully cleaned, sieved, and reinstalled on the new roofs. On the third floor, the new terrace surface is currently being laid: the exposed aggregate concrete slabs from the 1970s, removed and carefully cleaned, are being given a second life as reused paving.

Progress is also visible on the extensively planted solar roofs: beneath the now-installed solar modules, the greening is already thriving.

In this way, the urgently needed refurbishment combines new qualities of outdoor space with a conscious approach to existing resources.
